Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is Marble stone durable?

A. For centuries Marble has been used in statues, monuments and buildings. A simple and regular maintenance program will keep your marble looking beautiful and long lasting.

Q. Why does stone color and texture sometime varies?

A. No two pieces of stone are exactly same. Stone is a product of nature and characteristics such as veining and mineral deposits vary from quarry to quarry and sometimes even from block or from one slab to another.

Q. Where does natural stone come from?

A. Natural stone comes from quarries. A quarry is a type of open-pit-mine from which rocks or minerals are extracted. Quarry produces large blocks of stone, which are then cut into sheets called slabs. These slabs are then polished on one side, which brings out the color in the stone. Slabs coming from one block will be quite similar in color and veinage.

Q. Can I use marble on my kitchen counters?

A. Marble can be used on kitchen counters as long as its sealed. Since Marble contains calcium carbonate, the polished surface is more vulnerable to household acids including mustard, citrus, vinegar and a host of other food-related products. Marble is an excellent hygienic surface for kitchens. If you seal and take care of your marble kitchen, then there is less of a chance of damage.

Q. What sizes of Tiles and Slabs are available in Marble?

A. Most common sizes are 300×300, 400×400, 600×300, 600×400 and 600×600. Slabs come in size of 200×100 cm x 20mm and 30mm thickness. Custom sizes may also be available, please send us your query for the required size.

Q. What sizes of Tiles and Slabs are available in Granite?

A. Most common sizes for Tiles are 400×400, 600×300 and 600×600. Slab size is 200x 60 to 90cmx 18mm thickness. Custom sizes may also be available, please send us your query for the required size.

Q. Is granite good for kitchen counters?

A. Granite is a very hard stone formed at very high temperatures deep in the earth therefore its polish is not subject to etching by household acids, or scratching by knives and pots and pans. It is also unaffected by typical kitchen heat such as hot pans, or spilled liquid.

Q. Can granite stone be damaged?

A. Like any solid surface, high impact blows can harm granite. Because of its crystalline structure, it can chip if subjected to sharp hard objects. Unsealed, granite can absorb stains such as oil, which can ultimately cause dark spots or discoloration. Heat from pots and pans or burning liquids will not affect granite under normal circumstances.

Q. How much does marble stone cost per square meter?

A. We sell natural stones by slabs and cut-to-sizes (tiles). The price will depend on different factors like stone thickness, color or size. At Indus Stones, we aim to provide top quality stones at a most competitive price, often comparable or in most cases cheaper to floating floorboards. Please send your enquiry for exact pricing.

Q. Is the use of stone considered a good value for money?

A. The presence of marble or granite stone anywhere in a residential or commercial property is a plus on the real estate agents checklist. A marble floor or granite bench top makes a tangible contribution to the value of one’s property and above all it stays with you forever.
